SANTA MONICA, CA
"Nobody sees things as they really are since “reality” doesn't exist. It's only the fruit of our conformist interpretive ability"
Q: Where are you from?
A: I was born by surprise, I did not expect it. I still keep a good memory of being born, though. When I was born, my mother wasn't there. She didn't like that so she told me to not do that again. I’ve always been "Anti-Established" and self started. In fact, I was born again 2 years ago, this time in Los Angeles, but this birth was different. I was a metaphysical rebirth as an artist. I came from the land of Don Quijote, the landscape that inspires Salvador Dalí, the sun who saw the birth of Picasso, the same kingdom’s court of Velazquez and so many other “hidalgos” and “conquistadores”. In Spain, when we don’t live but celebrate life. A phenomenon occurs in Madrid that does not happen anywhere else in the world: “Los Madrileños” and among them, me.
Q: How did you first get into photography?
A: Two years ago, photography has captivated my full attention and it really satisfies my universal curiosity, so I quit everything else I was doing. I had a tremendous necessity to communicate through art and I still feel so. I guess I always been impulsive, delusional and passionate about what I really want to do. Either I do things I love or things that I hate but nothing in between. I put full heart into what I do. When I’m excited about something I’m working on, I couldn’t care less about everything else. I have to finish what I started. Currently is it photography but tomorrow could be painting but I'm always creating.
Q: What else contributes to your photography?
A: I came from a heritage of painters and geniuses, I’ve been breastfeed with art. I worked in the broadcast industry, entertainment, events, and advertising to become a reputed creative director. A master in the art of communication, if you will, only to change direction and come back full circle to my first passion; photography. There is more of my background on my site (www.HectorPuig.com) in case you are curious but no-one believes what I did, so I don't bother to tell anymore.
Q: Who inspires you?
A: H.R. Giger, Moebius, and painters like Salvador Dalí, Pablo Picasso and “El Greco” among my favorites are my inspiration. Thanks to these studious hours of the great geniuses, I learned that there were other ways to say things than those I had been taught.
